Christmas Ornaments Make Beautiful Keepsakes

Christmas is a sacred occasion. This time of the year, traditions are everywhere around the place. We try to do something new every Christmas. Almost everybody of us wish to decorate our homes with new Christmas ornaments. Every year we bring home fresh Christmas ornaments. How many have you collected over these years?

For years, I have been collecting my Christmas ornaments. Now when I look at them in my free time, I have tears in my eyes. They refresh all my Christmas memories. Who says only girls are fond of collecting Christmas ornaments?

Men are more possessive about their Christmas memories, especially if they are hand-made. They associate Christmas ornaments with their mother and grandmothers. Is there a nice way to store all these ornaments to make a life time memory? Yes, you can make a nice keepsake box to keep your ornaments unspoiled. When the ornaments are so special, can you stand an ordinary box? Make a pleasant keepsake box for your children. You should prefer a bigger box so that your children can store their Christmas ornaments for years to come.

We will help you make a fine keepsake box. You would need a raw wooden box, resistant and enduring, with a lid. Make a layer of sponge inside your box. This layer ensures that your box edges become covered and blunt. To adorn your box, you need paint brushes, ribbons, glitters, sprays, glue and craft paper. You can browse through the internet to get an idea of some eye catching designs. There's no limit to design, styles, patterns and drawings in which you can decorate your box. A little bit of imagination and creativity can make a beautiful keepsake box. After your keepsake box is ready, it is time to store your Christmas ornaments in the box.

The best approach is to divide your keepsake box into sections. Don't just throw in the ornaments. Arrange them in an organized manner in order to stamp out all probability of damage. Glass ornaments are breakable and fragile. They need to be stored with utmost care. Breakable ornaments should be stored in special containers. These containers should be a little large in size. Fill the empty space with some malleable substance to prevent any breakage. Your keepsake box should be spacious enough to store Christmas garlands. Label your Christmas ornaments nicely. This way you will have a clear idea about the year you bought your particular ornament in.

Memorable Christmas Gifts For Everybody on Your List

Christmas is fast approaching once again and now is the time to begin planning gifts and activities during the holiday season. Finding the perfect gift just involves keeping your eyes open, knowing what the recipient likes and finding the best deal. That's why planning ahead can help to make the holidays less stressful so all you have to worry about is bringing yourself and of course any family.

Of course you are usually shopping for many different people, each of whom has their own very unique and distinctive tastes. Personally, I find that giving personalized gifts, making homemade keepsakes or finding items that allow the recipient to pursue their hobbies and interests are always the most appreciated gifts you can give your loved ones.

Keepsake items like: a personalized crystal or marble plaque, single or family style coaster sets, glass ornaments for an individual or the entire family, jewelry and jewelry boxes or valet trays, leather travel bags or luggage, sweatshirts, t-shirts, hats, pajamas, terry robes or slippers, Swiss army knife, leather wallet, women's tote bags and gift baskets come in a huge variety of colors, styles, sizes and themes sure to please even the most discriminating of tastes. Plus all of these gift ideas can be personalized with names and dates, initials, a poem, a company's logo or even a famous quote.

Other items include but are not limited to: coffee mugs or a thermos, can Koozies for keeping beverages hot or cold, crystal barware, glasses or decanter sets, vintage or modern looking pub signs for the home bar, sterling silver or leather business card holder, leather passport cover and picture frames or photo albums all make unique and thoughtful keepsake gifts that can be proudly displayed and used for years to come.

Personalized gifts are especially fun and unique as children's gifts. Children really love to see items made especially for them, later they become cherished keepsakes they will remember fondly. Items like: a letter from Santa, their very own book about them or about an adventure they had, baseball and glove, wooden or aluminum bat, piggy banks, blankets and or throws, room signs for both boys and girls, toys like a yo-yo or harmonica and finally you can have a sketch created of your child from a photograph or a funny caricature is also very memorable.

Gifts can also be homemade which saves money and becomes a truly unique keepsake gift. However for those of us who are not so creative, thankfully we can shop for uniquely crafted gifts. Gifts like: scented candles, blankets or Afghans, potpourri, photo albums and gift baskets can all be made at home or bought. Plus they can all be tailored specifically to what the recipients like and their unique styles.

Other ideas are as follows: banner or garden flags for an individual, pet or the entire family, a gift certificate to the recipients favorite store or stores, tickets to a concert or event and even etched glass plates, serving trays, bowls and candy dishes make fun gifts to both give and receive.

Also hobby gifts like: golfing accessories, wine gifts, hiking accessories, camping accessories, any special classes he or she may be interested in or even a hot air balloon ride or an African safari can be the best gift in the world depending on the individual. Just make sure the African safari goes to your cousin and not to grandma who requires a walker to get around. :-)

Recipients include: your mother and father, girlfriend or boyfriend, grandmother and grandfather, spouse, the kids, any aunts or uncles and of course any in laws and other extended family like cousins and friends. This is why Christmas gets so stressful. With all the plans and a tight budget, sometimes we get a little swept away. Remember though, the gift doesn't have to cost a fortune to be well liked and appreciated; it just has to fit into the recipients lifestyle and needs to be something they want or can use.

By planning ahead you will save yourself a lot of stress, plus time and money during the holiday season. The holidays are a time of giving, so give to everyone on your list as well as yourself this year. By taking advantage of sales throughout the year and planning ahead, plus remembering to take some time to unwind during and after all the festivities, you will find the holidays more enjoyable, less stressful and more memorable. Happy Shopping :-)

Keepsake Christmas Decorations - Part 2 - Picture Christmas Wreath

Christmas memories always include the time I put aside for my children to make Christmas decorations. We love to make wall decorations and have many keepsakes of past Christmases, some 25 years old! Remembering the activities that we shared making the decorations makes the holidays more special as you lovingly place your decorations on the walls. In the last article, Christmas Keepsake Decorations - Part 1, you saw how to make a "Rudolph Handmade Deer", using your child's hand for antlers. A perfect companion keepsake to place beside it is a Picture Christmas Wreath, using your child's picture as the centerpiece.

Materials needed: white poster board, red felt, scissors (both regular and Z edged), glue, green tempera paint, red wooden beads, tape, a protractor or 2 different sized bowls, some newspaper, and a picture of your child. If you can get your child's picture in front of a Christmas tree, then it will really be cute! Doing these kinds of Christmas activities can make a family feel closer and helps make wonderful Christmas memories.

The first thing that you should do is draw 2 circles on the white poster board. The largest should be about 7 or 8". The smaller circle should be 3 & ½ to 4 & ½" and centered in the middle of the larger circle. Let your child help you by cutting out the shapes. Use craft zigzag scissors to cut the outside edge on the larger circle like small Zs. Cutting the inner circle might be hard for children and they may need you to start the cut.

Next, lay down newspapers and let your child paint the larger circle with green tempera paint. It will be cute to see the 'evergreen' look or their brush strokes when it dries. While the paint is drying, take the 3 & ½ " square cut red felt and draw a bow on it. The bow should use most of the square. The bow looks like a butterfly and the ribbon will be like an upside down V, about1" wide and 1" long. You should practice a few times until you get the design you like, then copy to the red felt square, and cut it.

Once the paint dries, you're ready to assemble the wreath. Turn the painted side down and tape the picture over the hole in the middle. Turn it over and check to see if the picture is centered. If the placement is good, then turn it back over and glue the edges to the wreath. Cut a 5" circle from the white poster board and glue it over the picture, on the back.

You are now ready to finish the Christmas wreath. Attach the red bow with glue to the bottom of the wreath. Glue 5 red wooden beads on the wreath, like holly berries. Your child's masterpiece is complete and ready to display alone or with the Rudolph Handmade deer. We enjoy making wall decorations that add Christmas spirit, memories and color to our home. If you and your family enjoyed this activity, then you can always use the remaining supplies to make other wreaths, and give them as Christmas presents from the child or family. More keepsake memory decorations will be explained in Keepsake Christmas Decorations.

Keepsake Christmas Ornament Box

I love handmade Christmas ornaments. Throughout the years I have
collected a number of them, made by myself and several family
members. These ornaments will make great keepsakes for our
children and grandchildren.

I have been looking for a creative way to store these keepsake
ornaments. In the past I have stored them with all my other tree
ornaments, but I wanted a special place to store them, especially
my daughter's ornaments that we have been collecting for her
throughout the years. After purchasing about $20 in supplies and
spending a couple of hours working on the project, I ended up
with a beautiful keepsake ornament box that I hope my daughter
will cherish for years to come.

To complete this project, you will need:

- Unfinished wooden box with lid

- Modge Podge (for decoupaging)

- Christmas cards

- Scissors

- Paint brushes

- Craft paint (optional)

- Acrylic sealer/finisher spray

All of the above items can be purchased at a craft store. The
craft store I went to had a variety of boxes to choose from. I
chose a small box that was $12.99. It was just what I was
looking for!

The box I chose has a raised border around the edges that looked
like it would be difficult to work around with decoupaging, so I
chose to paint it instead. I painted all the borders with
several coats of red acrylic paint.

Next I went through a big pile of old Christmas cards to find
suitable images to decoupage onto the box. This was the fun
part! Not only can you cut out pictures, you can also cut out
holiday sentiments from friends and family members. Just in the
past couple of years, several members of our extended family have
passed away, and projects such as this keepsake ornament box are
a great way to remember lost loved ones. Cut the cards into a
variety of sizes and shapes.

Using a paintbrush, apply Modge Podge or a similar decoupage
medium to the back of your cut out, then place the cut out on the
box. Paint a coating of Modge Podge over the cut out. Continue
pasting cut outs to the side of the box until it is covered, then
go over the entire side again with another coating of Modge
Podge. After the box is completely dry, you can apply another
coating for good measure.

After the box is complete (and dry), you can spray an acrylic
sealer/finisher spray over the entire box to protect the artwork
and eliminate the tackiness of the decoupage.

That's it! There is no limit to the possibilities of decorating
this beautiful ornament box. I haven't tried it yet, but I plan
to line the inside of the box with felt to give it a more
finished look.

How to Make Homemade Christmas decorations

After home-made Christmas decorations for your Christmas tree is much more than sentimental ornaments purchased with store. Give your home that warm, old-fashioned feeling of Christmas and is a good way to take the family during the holidays. Show your artistic side this year! Anyone who comes to your home the feeling that "special glory" that brings the holidays to see if your tree this holiday season.

Most homemade Christmas decorations can be generated byItems found in or around your home, with little or no cost to you. One idea that my family would do every year when I was younger, is to collect pine cones from outside and decorate. Growing up in the Northeast, we've had enough! We gain a few pine cones and various types of jewelry with them. My favorites were those shining. We would like to take a different color glitter glue and a set of glitter at the tip of each leaf on pine cones. Do all one color or useseveral. Tie string at the top to hang with and have a beautiful, natural homemade decorated Christmas tree. Another idea is that pine cones, Angel with the cone for the body. Just cut some wings of paper or foil, add decorate a head and a halo with a gun and glue.

Homemade Christmas wreath can be made with any number of things. Popcorn is probably the most common. There are many other things you can use, but if you want to do somethingseveral. You can use any kind of food that will go bad and that is soft enough to pull a string through, as some types of dried beans, berries, candies or marshmallows. If you do not want to use the foods, the use of plastic or glass beads or artificial flowers or just what you may think that plugs a hole.

I think we all have seen the Gingerbread Man Ornament Only bake gingerbread is hard, decorate and hang from the tree, pulled by a stringthrough a hole in the cookie. These are really fun to help the children with, even if they can eat more sweets and decorations of ice that actually put up decorations!

If you want to recycle, there are many things that used to house Christmas decorations. Bottlecaps and bulbs are just some of the things that you can use. Remove bottle caps in different colors and glue together in various shapes with a hot glue gun. For example, you use a bottle ofthe center and connect others around him in circles. You can then with cotton, glitter, beads or anything you would like a nice piece of jewelry to do. With the lights can be Rudolph or a snowman! For Rudolph, brown or light bulb, you feel wrapped in brown. Glue on a red pom-pom for the nose, glue or paint on a mouth, some eyes Googly, and some cut-out horns. Tie a string around the top to hang with and Rudolph! White cotton or use of material considered to build a snowman! Onlysticks to the onion, add a cotton ball or piece of material considered for the head and decorate as desired. You can even angels or Santa Claus! With a little 'fantasy you can see many beautiful ornaments with recycled glass lamps.

Do you have a series of simple, glass jewelry, but you want the pine, a little 'this year? Take the tip of the plain light bulbs, and some swirl acrylic paint on the inside! You can use a brush, or just a few drops of colorIndoor circling around and tilting the glass ornaments. Add some 'Glitter, if you like. Allow to dry and then the cap. Another good idea for ornaments clear glass is to put the pictures inside. One of my favorite gifts I ever did was have a picture, a relative of my son in one of these ornaments. Only the photos inside, recapped tires the ornament and tied some ribbon around the top. This is a nice addition to my tree every year! These make great Christmas presents home! They are simple, inexpensive, and are kept as a keepsake for years to come.

I hope you got some good ideas from these suggestions! Have a Merry Christmas!
