Create Ceramic Keepsakes For Your Baby

When a baby is born, the occasion is a momentous one. Every parent relishes in each of their baby's firsts. Such as the first smile, first laugh, first tooth, first step or first word. These are the moments that parents live for. Parents often try to catch every possible second of their children's lives either with a still camera or a video camera. After all, our babies won't be babies forever. But there are still a few firsts that need to be remembered. A baby's first hair cut or first lost tooth. For these memories a beautifully hand-crafted keepsake box is the way to preserve these precious times. For these special times, a keepsake box can preserve memories better than any camera can.

If you don't know much about working with clay, you might want to begin with some pottery lesson plans to help get you going. Simply roll out the clay to the thickness you want your box to be. When this is finished you can start assembling your box. When making the lid for your box, don't forget to include the little lip on the inside that keeps the lid snugly in place. You can choose to make your box extra tiny for that little tooth or lock of hair. Or, you can choose to make the box a little larger to fit other items, such as a birth certificate and baby's first footprints. Once you have finished putting together your box, feel free to be as creative as you wish with the ceramic paint. If you have a baby boy, perhaps you would paint the box in a baby blue with stars. If you have a baby girl, you might want to paint the boxes pink with little hearts. You can also get extra creative and use a rubber stamp to stamp words or pictures onto the boxes with your glazes. You might even use a small knife of some sort to carve a beautiful design into the sides of the boxes.

You can also get creative for other keepsakes that you might want to create. If you are having your baby baptized, you may decide to mold together a ceramic cross to hang over your baby's crib. This is a simple project that starts with some earthenware clay or any other type you may choose. Creating your baby's keepsake boxes on your own is great way to preserve that special memory. When your baby has grown and has children of his or her own, he or she will be able to show them the special boxes that you made especially for them. The keepsake boxes are something that every child would love to have to remind them of that moment in time.
