Saving Family Keepsakes for Scrapbooking

I'm new to scrapbooking, and I still can't believe all the possibilities there are for scrapbook layouts.

When I first began I pulled out and organized a lot of my daughter's childhood photos. Also collecting dust on my closet shelf was a box of other family keepsakes I'd kept throughout the years.

For example, when we went to Disney World, in addition to all the pictures we had taken, I kept the plane tickets, the cards you get to open your hotel door, meal vouchers, luggage tags, post cards, and theme park passes. These will make a fun addition to our Disney World-themed scrapbook pages.

For school, there are a number of things you can keep. Certificates, award ribbons, and report cards are just a couple of ideas. You can also break this category down into smaller ones, like school sports, plays, band, etc. I've kept all of the programs from my daughter's school plays, which will make a great addition to the pictures I have of her "in character."

Other keepsakes might include handmade cards or little notes your child might have left you from time to time. These memories are priceless, and could never be re-created even if you tried. Keeping these treasures in a family scrapbook will ensure the memories are preserved.

For holiday memories, you might have childhood Christmas wish lists, family letters, holiday cards, party invitations, or favorite family holiday recipes. I even keep thank-you cards I have received.

Looking through my box I also found some other types of family memories that would also make great themed scrapbook pages. Wedding announcements, funeral programs, and graduation announcements are a great complement to your family photographs.

Hopefully these ideas will get you thinking of things you might have tucked away somewhere that would be a great addition to your scrapbooking projects. If not, it's never too late to start.

Personalized Wedding Favors - Elegant Keepsakes

Personalized wedding favors add a wonderful touch to any guest gift. They have the bride and groom's name and possibly the date of the event engraved or printed. From cute, funny little gifts to elegant keepsakes, there is something to fit any style, theme and budget. Many couples have a rehearsal dinner or cocktail party a day or two before the wedding. Personalized beverage or luncheon napkins are foil printed and are easy for guest to carry home. If you prefer one gift for the women, with a different gift for the men, compact mirrors, mini lip balm, shot glasses and golf balls are popular selections.

Many people don't like the idea that their gifts will be discarded after the wedding. As a result, many couples choose personalized wedding favors that are fun as well as functional. Travel-sized bar tool kits are stylish guest gifts for couples. Wine glasses and champagne flutes can be silk-screened and personalized with a variety of themes and information. They can be stemless for a contemporary feel or traditionally styled. If the ceremony or reception will be outside during the spring or summer, silk fans are perfect accessories for keeping your guests cool and chic.

If you are assembling gift bags to be given to your guests at check in, personalized chocolate bars and travel sewing kits will be appreciated additions. After a long flight, a chocolate bar will be a welcome pick-me-up. The wrappers are personalized with your name and wedding date. There always seems to be a ripped pocket, loose button or unraveled thread at these events. Your guests will relax knowing that if it does happen to them, they will be able to fix it quickly and easily without missing any of the festivities.

Luggage tags, and photo frames make wonderful personalized wedding favors and can double as place card holders. When purchased in bulk, they will be less than two dollars each. They are perfect for destination weddings, as they can be used almost immediately. Key chains are less than one dollar and are great favors. They can contain lip balm, bottle openers and measuring tapes for added practicality. These are simple, inexpensive mementos to let your guests know that you are glad they could be there with you.
